Here are some great places to enjoy (some for free) for the remainder of June in the Norfolk area:
June 15: Happy Father’s Day.
Why not head over to Nauticus in downtown Norfolk and view maritime exhibits and the USS Wisconsin. Dad’s are free with a children’s admission ticket. Plan to spend about 2-4 hours depending on which exhibits you wish to see. Open 10am-5pm daily through Labor Day.
Virginia Zoo Member Night: 3500 Granby St. Free and Exclusive to members from 5:30pm to 8pm.
Bayou Boogaloo Music and Cajun Food Festival in Downtown Nofolk. Need a New Orleans fix but can’t make it down to Louisiana? Check out this food festival- Cajun specialties and Jazz music! June 19 from 12p-4p is free. A weekend pass is $20, day pass is $10.
Zoo Grooves at the Virginia Zoo: 3500 Granby St. Enjoy a concert at the Virginia Zoo: Cheap Thrills. Free to members, admission rates apply to non-members, 5:30pm-8pm.
Splash Pad and Playgrounds at World of Wonders Children’s Garden: Open Daily 9am-7pm (Children’s area closes around 6:30pm). Year Membership for military family is $90.00 and you can bring up to 6 guests with you. Adults are $11, Military is $10, Kids are $9 and under 2 is free. The Garden Café is currently closed. There are food trucks available on the weekends. You can also bring a picnic. The airport is nearby- so if you have a little one who loves planes, they will love this place even more.Also- if you like to bike, until October 15 you can bike the trails from 4-7pm Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.
Old Dominion Pretlow Planetarium Shows Wednesdays until August 5th. Doors open at 8:15pm, show starts at 8:30pm. Telescopes will be available for viewing at 9pm after the show. This is a free event.
Norfolk Tide Games-Wear your orange or black and head out to a Norfolk Tide home game.Check their schedule here. Ticket prices range from $8-11 not including taxes and fees.
Be sure to take advantage of the Blue Star Museums program this summer. These museums are FREE for military and their families all summer long.
Naval Station Norfolk Pool
There are 3 pools located at Naval Station Norfolk. One is located on base. There are two off base- 1 indoor and 1 outdoor. The outdoor pool has two slides and a separate kiddie pool that is perfect for my 18 month old. It is currently open on Saturday and Sundays from 11am-6pm. However on June 24th it will be open daily. It is located at 1733 90th Street (First right after the dirt pile). Call (757)-444-2134 for more information. Barnes and Nobles MacArthur Center Story Time
Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 10am Keep in mind it is 1.00 to park for up to three hours at the MacArthur Center Mall **Afterwards- why not head over to the Looney Tunes Play Center (located next to the food court). It is a great play center for toddlers. You must be under 42 inches to play and shoes are not allowed to be worn on the play equipment.
