Attention all nursing and pumping Mama’s out there!!! Traveling just got a little easier out of Jacksonville this week.
Jacksonville International Airport (JAX) installed a Lactation Suite in the airport. Woohoo! It’s designed to offer mothers a private, clean and well-designed space to pump or nurse while traveling through the airport. The free-standing pod is located just past security between Concourses A and C. It offers dual seating for a mother and companion, as well as a convenient fold-down table, power outlet for breast pump, mirror, soft lighting and space for luggage and/or stroller.
HOW AWESOME IS THAT? Personally, I’m thrilled. I’m comfortable nursing the babes anywhere these days. However, this adds a whole new realm of possibilities, especially when the toddler wants to explore but it’s time to feed baby. We can all hang out in the pod. OR, let’s not forget the time I flew to Dubai to meet hubs on deployment. I left my one year old with the grandparents and my pump and I made the 13 hour journey. Pumping in an airport proved to be much more challenging. Holding the pump underneath the nursing cover looks a little suspicious, don’t you think? Trying to do it in the bathroom stall is even more ridiculous. I would have been so thankful for the suite! Don’t get me started on pumping on a plane. Delta-take note from JAA.
Customer service Manager Bryan Long had this to say about the new suite, “We regularly receive inquiries from mothers looking for a private, clean and convenient facility at the airport to pump or nurse. “We are happy to accommodate their needs with this family-friendly solution.” We are happy too! Thanks JAA.
Next time you’re at the airport, be sure to check it out and let us know about your experience. Happy Traveling!
